Parts of the Hakea tree as well as the ring that I made using a modified Hakea seedpod as the starting point for the model.
Materials: oxidised sterling silver
Size: +/- 40mm from bottom of shank to top of pod
I was told by a man at the nursery that this is a Hakea saligna. The Hakea part is definitely correct, but I am not 100% sure about the saligna bit. I tried (briefly) to google it but I am still not entirely sure.
Anyway, whichever kind of Hakea it might be, I love this new ring with its knobbly, textured outside and smooth, concave inside.
Each shank is shaped and textured slightly differently and each ring will vary in colour as it is virtually impossible to control the colours exactly in the oxidising process-but this is all part of the fun :)
